The Textile Association of India (TAI), Vidarbha in collaboration with Indian Textile Accessories & Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (ITAMMA) organized a workshop on ‘Creating the ecosystem for innovation & technology development. The main theme of the workshop is to discuss how the Textile Industry can help to create an ecosystem for innovation and R&D in textile engineering industry.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis after performing a bhoomipujan for a textile park and inaugurating a spinning plant of GIMATex at Hinghanghat in Nagpur district on Sunday said that there is a huge potential for textile growth and hence more textile hubs will have to be set up across the state and Vidarbha made its epicentre to ensure 100 percent procurement and processing of cotton.

Vidarbha, the eastern region of the Indian state of Maharashtra is amongst the maximum cotton growing region that contributes 30 percent of the crop followed by Marathwada regions comprising the districts of Yavatmal, Nanded, Amravati, Parbhani, Wardha, Jalgaon, Akola, Buldhana, Nagpur, Dhule, etc. The Maharashtra government is working on a exhaustive policy to integrate six distressed districts of Vidarbha through 80 percent cotton industry to restore its tag of “white gold”.

The Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) facilitated a meeting for Sanjay Gupta, an entrepreneur from Chandigarh (Punjab) with Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister and Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries recently on the subject, expressing the need for a textile manufacturing hub in Nandgaonpeth MIDC (Amravati) so that cotton is processed and goes out of Vidarbha as fabric, in short, Fibre to Fabric.

For this VED proposes to hold road-shows along with State Government in Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamilnadu to market Nandgaonpeth there as a textile hub.
