India, Russia textile trade likely to reach more than $1bn

The textile trade between India and Russia currently stands at $161 million, but has the potential to reach more than $1 billion with a huge market of winter wears in Russia, said J K Dadu, additional secretary, Union ministry of textiles while speaking at a country session on the second day of Textiles India 2017.

With over 10 months of extreme cold climate in Russia, India can has the potential to cater to this weather through items such as leather jackets, caps, boots, pashmina shawls and various other woolens, which it can export.

Textile India 2017, country's first ever mega trade event for the textile sector, will beinauguarated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held in Gandhinagar.

Textile industry stalwarts from India and abroad, central and state ministers and other industry stakeholders are expected to participate in the 3-day event.

Textiles India-2017 is being organized by Union ministry of textiles with support from Union ministry of commerce and in association with all textile export promotion councils.

Designers, artisans to hold fashion show at Textile India 2017

Textile India 2017 to begin from tomorrow 30th June, will have fashion show on Friday and Saturday. The two shows have been specifically curated to showcase a collection of heritage Indian textiles - in both weaves and prints, with special focus on innovation in craft and design.

A line of garments created by artisans and renowned fashion designers will be showcased at a fashion show.
