At lint market, demand for better lint grades kept trading firm. Leading buyers fortified their long positions by making deals for better grades of cotton at Rs 6,700-Rs 6,750 per maund, on the back of anticipated short supply of better grades during upcoming trading sessions.

Demand for better grades of lint would keep quality conscious buyers make forward deals for a month’s delivery period in coming days.

Karachi Cotton Exchange on Monday witnessed active trading, while spot rate remained firm at Rs6,350/maund (37.324 kg) and Rs6,802/40-kg. Ex-Karachi rates also remained firm Rs6,485/maund and Rs6,950/40-kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

Karachi Cotton Market recorded nine transactions of around 6,000 bales of the new crop at a price of Rs6,350 to Rs6,700 a maund.

According to an analyst, there was more demand after rains stopped in Sindh. Around 65 ginning factories have started operation in Sindh and 10 in Punjab.

Sustained demand from needy spinners to replenish their stocks over tight supply of quality cotton and strong demand pushed Cotton prices on Wednesday to a new seasonal record high. There were a couple of big deals which indicated spinners are keen to get maximum stocks from local source.

However, active trading prevailed at the Karachi Cotton Exchange on Wednesday, while spot rates remained firm.

Cotton market witnessed demand of fine grade lint

During the trading session at cotton market, buyers purchased fine grade lint on slightly higher price at around Rs5,000 per maund to Rs5,525 per maud. Around 300 bales changed hands, said floork brokers.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate remained firm at Rs 5,650 per maund.

According to a senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani, buyers and sellers remained entangled in price war on second grade stuff and buyers bought grade at around Rs 5,375 per maund to cater their immediate need.
