Trading activity on the cotton market expands on Wednesday with increasing flow of phutti (seed cotton) which will also improve the supply of quality lint. However, short supply against higher demand kept prices steady.

Phutti arrivals from Sindh continue to be higher due to early maturing of crop, therefore much of trading was noted in this variety.However, supplies from Punjab were also improving.

Active trading was witnessed at the Karachi Cotton Exchange on Wednesday after cotton arrivals report was released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Assocication (PCGA) on Tuesday and cotton remaining stable.

Yazman Mandi’s 400 bales were sold at Rs6,800/maund, 400 bales of Bahawalnagar at Rs6,850/maund, 2,400 bales of Rahimyar Khan at Rs6,800 to Rs6,925/maund and another lot of 2,000 bales of Rahimyar Khan exchanged hands at Rs7,000/maund.

Slow trading witnessed amid dwindling cotton stocks and higher prices at the cotton market on Monday. Currently, Ginners are holding not more than 500,000 bales. Moreover, the next cotton season is more than four months away.

Many leading spinners have already accumulated their seasonal need of cotton while small and medium sized units are looking for quality cotton at competitive prices.

At the Karachi Cotton Association, its spot rates remained unchanged.

Big spinners have also reportedly slowed down their imports. On the domestic front, the trading ring gave a deserted look.
