U.S antidumping duty determinations on imports of polyester textured yarn from China and India

On June 26, 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce (“Commerce Department”) announced affirmative preliminary determinations that imports of polyester textured yarn from China and India are being unfairly sold below their fair value in the United States at significant double-digit margins, as follows.

RIL commissions the world's largest ROGC at Jamnagar

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) completing its multi-billion-dollar expansion of largest operating refinery off-gas cracker (ROGC) world’s largest off-gas cracker facility at its Jamnagar complex. This has also doubled RIL’s ethylene production capacity, which is now close to 4 MMTPA at five of its manufacturing sites. RIL joins the distinguished league of top 5 petrochemical producers globally.

With this, Jamnagar in Gujarat has also become home to the world’s largest operating refinery off-gas cracker, RIL said in a statement.

One of the largest petrochemical companies in India, Reliance Industries Limited, for its expansion and debottlenecking Dahej petrochemical facility in Bharuch district Gujarat secures environment clearance from Environment Ministry under recommendations received from Expert Appraisal Committee.

The green nod to the proposed project, which will be carried out within the existing plant area of 700 hectare, is subject to some conditions, the official said.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced successful commissioning of the first phase of Paraxylene (PX) plant at Jamnagar, Gujarat on the birth anniversary of Reliance’s Founder Chairman Padma Vibhushan Shri Dhirubhai H. Ambani.

The plant with capacity of 2.2 MMTPA is built with state of the art crystallization technolgy from BP which is highly energy efficient and environment friendly. With the commissioning of this plant, RIL’s PX capacity will more than double from 2.0 MMTPA to 4.2 MMTPA.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) that had shut down its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Dahej for a brief period owing to increased water salinity has not only restarted its Dahej PTA plant but is ramping up production to full capacity.

During the shutdown of its Dahej PTA plant, RIL had ensured that PTA supplies to downstream customers from its Hazira and Patalganga. Now, the customers will be getting PTA from all three locations.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited will be soon come up with two new petrochemical plants. These plants will be manufacturing polyester plastic that is used in packaging, plastic bottles, clothing and foods and beverages.

At present, India produces 5.4 million tons polyester every year. This makes the country, the second largest producer of polyester. Every year, the Polyester market is showing growth rate of 8-10%. Indian market is currently facing shortfall of PTA over 1.5 million tons every year. The current capacity will help to overcome this deficit to an extent.
