Lint price remained overall firm on average volumes past week

With firm physical prices, lint trading remained fair as fine grades were in focus. The official spot rate remained firm at Rs 5,650 per maund while cottonseed prices in Sindh stood around at Rs 3,250 per maund and Rs 3,375 per maund and in Punjab rates stayed at Rs 3,450 and Rs 3,625 per maund, traders said.

Due to better arrival of cottonseed and ginners sped up their deliveries in anticipating increase in demand in the near future keeping the economic activities firm floor brokers said.

Fine lint continues to be in demand

During the trading session, many buyers made deals in fine grade to strengthen their long positions in the lint market that kept physical prices firm. Trader at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) also said that some leading buyers made a month period forward deals for all grades on Saturday.

Leading buyers at cotton market remained grade conscious and only made deals on slightly higher price according to their immediate need of lint. Selective buying in lint market kept physical prices firm, said traders at the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) on Monday.

During the trading session, mills in Sindh and Punjab stations purchased all grades on cautious note as grade issue was continue. Traders offered all grades of lint on bargaining rates at around Rs 4,675 per maund to Rs 4,975 per maund in order to capitalise maximum returns on their proceeds, floor brokers said.

During trading week at cotton market, fine grade lint demand combined with buyers’ eagerness for fine and second grade cotton for blending purposes kept physical prices firm while spot rate stayed in steady zone. Buyers at major stations of Punjab and Sindh remained busy buying fine grades as demand of better grades was growing on back of producing better textile products while potential buyers made deals for all grades in order to build up their inventories before shrinking fine grade lint, dealers said.
