A three day fiesta, "Shaan-e-Pakistan" all set to begin from September 10 will have fashion designers from India and Pakistan showcasing a range of textiles and lifestyle accessories here, which aims to enhance co-operation between the two countries. It has roped in over 150 exhibitors from both the countries.

Muhammad Irfan Tarar, Minister (Trade) High Commission for Pakistan yesterday said that this is a common platform for artisans and designers from both the countries to come together and showcase their talent.

Textile and Fashion Designer Gaurang Shah is set to showcase a collection titled Kalpavriksha at Lakme Fashion Week summer-resort 2015. Kalpavriksha, the 'wish-fulfilling' divine tree in Hindu mythology is the inspiration of the designer. The collection also pays tribute to various summer-friendly fabrics.

His collection is a representation of the tree of life woven by the jamdani weavers from Andhra Pradesh and Bangladesh symphonized with phulkari, kalamkari and chikankari.

Crafts Council of India to present traditional Parsi weaves

India Habitat Centre through its cultural festival aiming to not only contemporizing Phulkari, an ancient textile of Punjab but save this rich old tradition textile art and taking it to a completely new level.

Phulkari, a rural tradition of handmade embroidery, meaning " flower work " was perpetuated by the women of Punjab (North-west India & Pakistan) during the 19th century and till the beginning of the 20th century. The word phulkari indicates the shawl that was loomed and embroidered to cover women's heads or to be displayed in a gurudwara (Sikh temple).
