Woolfest to showcase the best in wool crafts this year

Woolfest, a unique event to display the best in wool crafts and offers a wealth of advice for any natural fibre enthusiast. Visitors have a chance to find out more about a new craft or learn a new skill in one of the many demonstrations taking place. This year they have the opportunity to discover more about wet felting, weaving and extreme textiles.

The event is also offering the chance to for festival goers to meet the makers and designers as well as the opportunity to learn more about British wool.

NID plans to set up innovation centre for natural fibre at its Ahmedabad campus

The National Institute of Design (NID) is set to traverse the path of innovation in research and design. NID has set up an 'Innovation Centre for Natural Fibre' at its Gandhinagar campus for this. Their focus would primarily be on banana, coir, bamboo, hemp which is termed as unconventional natural fibres.

The exhibition, Nature of Fashion to display the raw materials used for some of the most glamorous clothing from the 1700s to the present day will opens on Saturday at Killerton House, near Exeter and runs until November.

Plants, insects and minerals have been used to weave and colour textiles with floral patterns and other designs from the natural world have been the inspiration for generations of designers and craftsmen.

Common natural plant and animal fibres such as linen, cotton, wool and silk will sit alongside more unusual examples of plant fibres, such as pineapple.

Natural fibre trading gains over limited cotton arrival

Trading of natural fibre was seen due to decrease in the cotton arrival. In the past few days cotton arrivals have decreased from 65,000 bales to 50,000 bales. According to a Rajkot-based ginner, farmers are holding back kapas and they are not willing to sell at lower price.

With the limited cotton arrival, price of Natural fibre increased by Rs200 for a candy of 356 kg. Kapas or raw cotton prices also gained.

According to brokers, demand emerged from domestic mills and exporters also began to buy to meet their immediate needs.
