42 years old Pune based manufacturer of textile spinning rings and ring travellers, Unitech Texmech Pvt. Ltd. has launched a new spinning ring, the UniK1, which has been developed through a special process of steel treatment using new technology. This treatment provides the UniK1 with excellent wear resistant properties, low coefficient of friction and is also suitable for spinning several varieties of yarns.

With its ninth year this season, Purnam, a community organization will present its summer festive exhibition titled Rakhi - The Thread of Love – on July 22 with an emphasis on Indian handlooms at hotel The Ashok in New Delhi.

Global home furnishings leader, IKEA has announced a new initiative - ‘Make More in India’ aimed at potential suppliers and to expand IKEA’s supplier base as well as the categories of home furnishing products sourced in India. IKEA currently sources for Euro 315 million and plans to double the sourcing by 2020. It has 48 suppliers in India with 45,000 direct employees and about 400,000 people in its extended supply chain.

The National Institute of Design (NID) is set to traverse the path of innovation in research and design. NID has set up an 'Innovation Centre for Natural Fibre' at its Gandhinagar campus for this. Their focus would primarily be on banana, coir, bamboo, hemp which is termed as unconventional natural fibres.
