NGT directs reopening of textile units in Rajasthan

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has allowed the conditional reopening of 578 textile units engaged in dyeing and printing of cloth in Pali district of Rajasthan , with an assurance that any direction passed by the tribunal has to be complied with. These units had been shut for the last eight months for flouting pollution norms.

The Jodhpur bench of the tribunal, comprising Justice Jawad Rahim and member B S Sajwan, permitted the reopening of these industries.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its judgment delivered on November 04, 2015, has given conditional permission to re-start the textile processing units in Pali, Balotra and the surrounding areas provided they comply with the guidelines of the tribunal and the state pollution control board. This has brought back smile on the faces of yarn traders, weavers and grey cloth merchants of Malegaon textile industry, reeling under recession since January 2015.

Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) expressed a big relief over the National Green Tribunal’s order on lifting the ban on the operation of textile units in Rajasthan.

In May, the NGT bench of Jodhpur had ordered the closure of 739 textile units in Balotra and its surrounding areas of Jasol, Bithuja in Rajasthan, for non-adherence to norms laid down by Pollution Control Board.

Haryana textile units to install ETP and attain zero discharge target

In order to stop pollutants from flowing into the Yamuna and turn each of them into a zero discharge unit, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has made it mandatory for all textile industries to treat and recycle discharged water. If directions are not followed by any unit, they will be sealed immediately, the HSPCB official said.
