World's first silk based electronic textile manufacturing tech developed

The world’s first silk based electronic textile manufacturing technology developed based on graphene oxide coating on silk and requires no adhesive. The technology is being developed by the South Korean research team lead by Incheon University professor Kim Byeong-hoon and Inha University professor Jin Hyeong-joon. This was announced by the National Research Foundation of Korea on December 12.

The size of the Indian textile machinery industry is poised to double to Rs 45,000 crore by 2022 from the present Rs22,000 crore in light of new projects and emphasis on setting up textile parks, said Sanjay Lathia, Chairman of India International Textile Machinery Exhibitions.

Modi government's 'Make in India' programme is also expected to help the textile sector by way of increase in demand for modern machineries.

The country has the potential to become manufacturing hub in the textile machinery with abundance of skilled labour, low cost and natural resources available.

Textile and garments worth N300 billion being annually imported into Nigeria without paying duties or taxes. This was revealed by Issa Aremu, the General-Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria in llorin, the Kwara State Capital at the 26th National Education Conference of the Union. He is also the vice president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
