RIL gets approval from CCI for joint venture in textile business with Chinese firm

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), India's largest private sector company, on Tuesday said it 'had entered into a definitive agreement for a joint venture in business with China's Shandong Ruyi Science and Technology Group (Ruyi).

According to the agreement, RIL will transfer its existing textile business under the Vimal brand into a newly incorporated company in which RIL will hold 51 per cent stake. The remaining 49 per cent stake will be sold to Ruyi.

Alok Industries, textile major is in view of raising Rs 2,000 crore by selling its UK retail chain, Store 21, and well as land in Mumbai, Vapi and Silvassa over the next two years for which investment bankers have been appointed.

At the moment, the company’s focus is selling all their non-core assets as they are in a consolidation phase and will not expand for at least the next three to four years, said Chief Financial Officer Sunil Khandelwal.

They also have plans to sell its land in Mumbai in the next six months and hope to raise at least Rs 300 crore from this sale.

The re-opening of the moribund Zambia-China Mulungushi Textile Joint Venture seven years after it was shut has come as a special gift to the people of Kabwe in this Jubilee year.
 
The factory has been leased to Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited Group (MeTL) for a period of 12 years. The new investor will in the next three months assess the condition of the machinery at the plant, before resuming operations at the textile plant.
