ITF appeals to give top priority to Indian textile sector in India EAEU FTA

The Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) has appealed to Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman to give top priority to textile sector in the on-going study of India-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and also thanks her for swift finalization of first draft of the Joint Study Group (JSG) report on the feasibility of FTA.

In a letter to the Minister, ITF Secretary, Prabhu Dhamodaran said that there were tremendous opportunities awaiting the Indian textile products in this region.

Prabhu said that ITF was willing to submit data and also take active part in this JSG process.

Rising price drive textile mills to imports cotton from W African countries

The price of cotton generally shoots up when the industry needs cotton and when the arrivals have come down in the market. But this year, just two months since new cotton season began and the prices of cotton have already gone up though arrivals continue to be high in the market.

This situation has driven as many as 43 textile mills in the State have come together and plan to import cotton from West African countries, depending on the requirement.

Coimbatore textile mills having faced the hit in operations due to long hours of power cut have taken steps towards energy conservation as technology is available for every activity to bring down the electricity consumed in the mills, said M. Senthil Kumar, chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association.

Be it the spinning mills or the humidification plants, machinery come with energy saving upgrades. At present, only two percent to three percent of the mills have gone in for LEDs. There is still much that can be done by the mills for saving energy in operations.

ITF urge to facilitate opening common selling centres for yarn in China

The Union Ministry of Textiles urged to facilitate opening of common selling offices or facilitation centres in China to encourage close interaction among Indian industrialists and prevent buyers exploiting them, said Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) secretary D Prabhu Dhamodharan in a memorandum to the Ministry Secretary S K Panda.

Common selling centres were necessary as Chinese yarn buyers and traders, as a cartel, have been crushing Indian yarn manufacturers in recent times. To counter them and this would strengthen the Indian buyers' position with constant market intelligence.

The Indian Texpreneurs’ Federation (ITF) has sought a few policy change and proactive Textile Ministry to make the TN textile sector vibrant and help achieve its vision. In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ITF Secretary D Prabhu has categorically stated that the Federation is not seeking sops or subsidies, but better support from the Centre to do business with ease.

Tamil Nadu textile mills that make polyester or polyester cotton yarn having forced to stop production for two days a week for four weeks as prices for the yarn had dropped and the mills were find the price unviable and with export orders too declining have started exploring new markets and products, said Prabhu Dhamodharan, secretary of Indian Texpreneurs Federation.

Further, some mills have taken sample orders from buyers in Ludhiana, Delhi and Tirupur. They plan to study the customer demand, explore new markets and products, he said.
