IKEA initiates ‘Make More in India’ and to expand supplier base in India

Global home furnishings leader, IKEA has announced a new initiative - ‘Make More in India’ aimed at potential suppliers and to expand IKEA’s supplier base as well as the categories of home furnishing products sourced in India. IKEA currently sources for Euro 315 million and plans to double the sourcing by 2020. It has 48 suppliers in India with 45,000 direct employees and about 400,000 people in its extended supply chain.

Surya plans to invest $ 30 mn to open distribution facility in Cartersville, Ga.

Surya Inc., an Indian based vertically-integrated manufacturer of machine and hand-knotted area rugs and soft goods for the home furnishings market plans investment of $30 million to open a U.S. corporate office and state-of-the-art, 1,000,000 square foot distribution facility in Cartersville, Ga.

The Cartersville facility will handle Surya’s supply chain management, sales, and web creative development services. The company currently has a corporate facility in Calhoun, Ga., and reports that 250 jobs will be retained with the opening of the new facility.
