ASF price rolls over amid steady downstream demand

Acrylic staple fibre prices were stable across markets in Asian seeing steady downstream demand and normal liquidity. However, weak currency in China and India pegged prices down in US$ terms.

ASF price remains range-bound in Asian markets

In China, ASF prices were stable in Yuan terms but down US$2 a kg due to weak currency in the second week of November. Sinopec raised its November list prices to neutralize currency change, with cotton‐type staple 1.5D at US$1.88-1.89 a kg from Shanghai Petrochemical, US$1.84 a kg from Anqing Petrochemical and US$1.80 a kg from Qilu Petrochemical.

ASF price rolls over in Asian markets

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices were flat in the first week of October. PetroChina issued October list prices at a roll over with 1.5D ASF at US$1.87 a kg and 3D tow at US$2.04 a kg.

Acrylic staple fibre prices were stable in Asian markets although cost pressure was heavy due to previous week’s surge in acrylonitrile cost, while liquidity at producers improved on more demand amid upcoming busy season. Some producers tended to underpin prices, while most chose to wait and see.

ASF prices in India and Pakistan also rolled over on cost support.

Offers for Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow rose US cents 2 a kg in the third week of September while regular specs were flat on the week. In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over during the week.

Acrylic staple fibre prices were stable to up since upstream acrylonitrile values were still high under planned supply, while downstream yarn makers mainly purchased from hand to mouth volumes. However, mills showed better appetites on the back of stable acrylic yarn sentiment, but overall performance remained lackluster.

ASF price rolls over in Asian markets

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices rolled over in the second week of September. PetroChina released September list prices for 1.5D ASF pegged at 12.45 Yuan a kg (US$1.86 a kg) and 3D tow at 13.60 Yuan a kg (US$2.03 a kg).

Acrylic staple fibre prices held stable that week across China, India and Pakistan. Demand for some specs were seen rising and overall sentiment warming up to some extent.

Although cost pressure increased in line with rising acrylonitrile cost in recent weeks, modest downstream demand resulted in the flat movement of ASF markets.
