Acrylonitrile prices plunge amid weak buying sentiment

Asian ACN markers were down US$10 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the first week of November. In China, offers for offshore cargoes remained unchanged on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices fell for the first time in Asian markets since early March due to resumed supply and weak buying sentiment, though the downtrend is likely to remain limited. Trading remained thin amid weak sentiment while feedstock propylene fell on the week.

Acrylonitrile price falls on weak demand

Asian markers were down US$5 a ton CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia in the last week of October. In China, offers for offshore cargoes remained unchanged on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices edged down in Asian markets, after remaining firm past four weeks, as demand weakened from downstream acrylic fibre makers while upstream propylene cost declined sharply.

Meanwhile, Taiwan-based China Petrochemical Development Corp shut its 240,000 ton a year ACN plant for scheduled maintenance.

Acrylonitrile prices remain range bound in Asia, US

Asian acrylonitrile markers, the CFR Far East Asia remained flat again in the third week of October while Southeast Asia rolled over on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes remained range bound during the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets were flat for the fourth consecutive week after they surged dramatically end-September. Meanwhile, term contract discussions for 2017 began while Mitsubishi Rayon’s ACN plant will restart in early November.

Asian acrylonitrile markers were flat in the second week of October. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were range bound during the week.

Acrylonitrile prices were flat across the board that week in Asian markets amid thin trade and limited spot interest. In China, talk remained thin despite return from holiday amid limited discussion.

Acrylonitrile price remains flat across all regions

Asian markers the CFR Far East Asia was flat in the first week of October while Southeast Asia rolled over on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were unchanged on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices remained stable at firm levels amid thin activity, but supply tightness apparently eased as run rate was ramped up. Thus there was some retreat after the short-term stabilization. In China, most sellers maintained firm offers although supply tightness somehow eased. Turnarounds in South Korea and tight supply in Taiwan also supported prices to remain firm.

Acrylonitrile price rises amid tight supply

Asian acrylonitrile markers CFR Far East Asia jumped US$70 a ton in the last week of September while Southeast Asia rose by a sharp US$35 a ton on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes up US$25 a ton CFR on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets shot up on the week as supply tightened dramatically. South Korea’s Tongsuh Petrochemical will shut its 245,000 ton a year ACN unit in Ulsan from mid-October for scheduled maintenance.

Asian acrylonitrile market witnesses mixed price movements

Asian acrylonitrile markers CFR Far East Asia was flat in the third week of September while Southeast Asia declined sharply by US$40 a ton on the week. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were down US$25 a ton on the week.

Acrylonirile price movements in Asia were mixed with Fareast marker flat and CFR South Asia falling dramatically on the week. In China, domestic prices were up despite Shanghai Secco was in process of restarting its new 260,000 ton a year ACN plant next week.

In China, domestic prices rolled over, amid a quiet market. S Korea’s Tongsuh Petrochemical was running its 245,000 ton a year No. 3 acrylonitrile plant at Ulsan at 85% operation rate after restart.

Acrylonitrile price jumps on tight supply

Asian acrylonitrile markers, CFR Far East Asia and Southeast Asia rose US$5 a ton in the first week of September. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were up US$50 a ton on the week.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets rose across the board as supply remained tight with very limited offers. Availability was also hindered by lack of deepsea cargoes. In China, spot prices surged that week, with majors offering higher. Players indicated difficulty to get deals done even at high level.

US acrylonitrile price reaches 17-month high

In US, acrylonitrile export reaches 17-month high in the last week of August while pricing gained on persistent tightness in market. Spot supply will remain limited into Q4. Ascend Performance Materials will raise acrylonitrile and other intermediates prices by several cents from mid-September, it said a letter to customers. Export spot assessment was up US$15 a ton FOB USG on the week.

In Europe, acrylonitrile prices rose on support of downstream ABS markets and rising butadiene prices. European acrylonitrile was up US$15 a ton on the week.
