In US, acrylonitrile export reaches 17-month high in the last week of August while pricing gained on persistent tightness in market. Spot supply will remain limited into Q4. Ascend Performance Materials will raise acrylonitrile and other intermediates prices by several cents from mid-September, it said a letter to customers. Export spot assessment was up US$15 a ton FOB USG on the week.
In Europe, acrylonitrile prices rose on support of downstream ABS markets and rising butadiene prices. European acrylonitrile was up US$15 a ton on the week.
Asian ACN markers, the CFR Far East Asia remained elevated at US$1,299-1,301 a ton while Southeast Asia was flat at US$1,384-1,386 a ton. In China, offers for offshore cargoes were around US$1,300‐1,350 a ton CFR. Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets remained unchanged on week amid thin trading and buyer-seller standoff. Korea's Tongsuh shut its Ulsan 245,000 ton a year ACN unit due to mechanical issue.
