Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema in Nagaland held a one day training on ‘pineapple fibre extraction’ as pineapple leaf has high textile grade commercial fibre and is graded between jute and cotton. The training was organized at Molvom village, Dimapur to promote utilization of agro-waste leaves of pineapple for fibre extraction.
The cotton market remained dull with not much activity on Monday as millers and spinners were lesser as buyers stayed away from proceedings. According to cotton analyst, local buyers are fed up with the inactive market; most of them are facing financial crunch as local yarn is still not in demand. Also a sharp fall in the dollar value against the rupee has further depressed cotton demand. Moreover, import of cotton yarn from India has pushed the demand of local stuff down.

Pakistan investors willing to take over Kaduna Textile Limited (KTL), Notex and Finetex, the Nigerian textile industry which are facing problem as it can product only 10 percent capacity. The potential investors had been told of challenges faced by these textile companies. The physical inspection of the companies has been done and negotiations are on, said Garuba Salawa, director-general, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA).
