The International Handicrafts Fair of Havana, popularly known by FIART opened on December 4 at Pabexpo fairgrounds, organized by the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets, in collaboration with the EGREM and ARTEX and supported by the Ministry of Culture. Foundation stone was laid for the integrated textile office complex (ITOC) at Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) Varanasi by Textile Minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday. The proposed office complex will house all offices in Varanasi under the Ministry of Textile which work for the welfare of weavers.

Mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu fell US cents 8 a kg in the second week of December while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan edged down US cents 3 a kg.

Spun viscose yarn prices fell in line with VSF prices. Hereinto, offers for rabbit-hair-like yarn in China slumped, while for Fujian-origin siro-spun 40s yarn dropped.

VSF price fall was seen accelerating in recent weeks, which will not support yarn pricing.

In India, viscose yarn producers maintained low operating rates on insipid trades, and there may be price deductions in coming weeks.

Textile minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar launched the Enterprise Resource Planning system for the commercial activities of the National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) to boost domestic handloom industry in Varanasi on Sunday.

NHDC has thus become the first PSU under the Textiles Ministry to have the ERP system, the system that will help improve productivity, increase efficiencies, decrease costs and streamline supply of raw material processes in NHDC.
