Asian MEG markers were down US$18 a ton CFR South East Asia and CFR China in the second week of September. Offers for nearby-month goods were around US$640 a ton, against counter offers of US$630 a ton. MEGlobal nominated contract price for October was up US$20 a ton CFR Asia from September number.
Mono ethylene glycol prices fell in Asian markets on profit taking and amid holidays in Northeast Asia. Traders generally had squared positions earlier on the week. Post holiday, MEG markets were range bound and October deliveries were talked and concluded, while November deliveries changed hands. MEGlobal announced its October price up on the month.
In Europe, outlook was bullish as scarcity was expected and low European prices deterred imports. European MEG spot prices rose Euro5 a ton FCA NEW on the week.
In US, MEG spot was up on ethylene pressure and producers pushed for October contract price increases. Ethylene was at highest level since January 2015. Spot MEG prices were up US cent 0.50 per pound on the week.
