Cotton yarn makers facing margin pressure over cotton price rise and low demand

Cotton prices that remained stable till February-March is seen gradually rising from Rs 41,500-42,000 per candy to Rs 44,000 per candy, wherein a candy is about 356 kg. The recent rise in cotton prices has put yarn makers under margin pressure as they are unable to raise prices at once, due to low demand.

According to cotton yarn makers, rising cotton prices has led to shrinking margins by around 5-7 percent in the last one month. Moreover, rise in cotton prices coupled with restricted demand has further resulted to increased pressure on margins.

First textile mill to come up with investment by Taiwanese group in Vietnam

Tai Yuen Co. Ltd, a subsidiary company of the Taiwan-based Yunlon Group, who operates from the upstream to downstream vertically from spinning, dyeing to garment business has part of its expansion plan will be constructing a textile mill in Dong Van II Industrial Park, Duy Tien district, Vietnam on around 24 hectare of land. This will be the first textile mill with an investment by the Taiwanese group in Ha Nam province of Vietnam.

Mafatlal Industries, one of the largest composite textile mills in the country has been a leader in textile for over 100year producing some of the finest fabrics which are supplied to the most demanding customers and oversees. It has chalked out investment plan to improve quality and volume at its Gujarat units

Mafatlal Industries has already invested Rs 100 crore in modernization of the two units Nadiad and Navsari in Gujarat. MIL Chairman Hrishikesh A Mafatlal said that they have planned an additional Rs 200-crore investment in them in the next three years.

Garment makers, textile mills feuding over increased yarn prices

Textile mills have increased yarn prices by Rs 5 per kg for all counts from January 20. Garment manufacturers say that mills are planning to hike it further from the beginning of next month. The Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) has urged textile mills to rollback the increase in yarn prices. Mills however defended the move citing high cotton prices.
