Textile and Garment Manufacturers Association of Tanzania (TEGAMAT) to develop and support consuming industries urged the government to execute the Cotton to Clothing Strategy (2016-2020). The strategy advocates construction of local industry, especially the agro-processors.

TEGAMAT Vice President Sylvester Kazi in Dar es Salaam, speaking at the official launch of leather, sunflower oil, cotton to clothing strategies and value chain roadmap, said that the government should use the strategy to implement the second five year development plan.

Foreign investors have started showing interest on Tanzania’s textile subsector, which is a good indication of prospects for the country’s industrialisation drive. According to the Textile Development Unit’s (TDU) Investment Promotion Director, Mr Tim Armstrong, there is a significant potential for flourishing textile and garment industry in the country, thanks to the country’s cotton production capacity.
