In recent years, the development of technical textiles industry has become one of the priorities for the Russian government. The Moscow region is likely to become one of the centres of the Russian technical textiles and nonwovens production due to the ever improving investment climate and the increase in state support during the next several years, according to leading Russian analysts and technical textiles producers.

The Russian government is considering providing additional state support to its domestic producers of technical textiles and nonwovens. Russian Minister of Industry and Trade plans to provide funds which will help producers to complete currently implemented projects and to launch new ones.

According to an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, part of the funds will be also invested in the technical modernization of the national industry of technical textiles and nonwovens, as the share of outdated equipment in it remains very high.

The Russian government has recent taken up decision to impose a ban on the import of industrial equipment from Western countries. The decision was the Russian government’s response to recent sanctions, imposed on the country by the European Union and the United States, which has resulted in the ban on the import of a range of goods and products for various segments of Russian industrial production.

Also up to 90% of modern equipment for industry is currently imported from abroad, while local producers are still unable to compete with importers.
