Caprolactum price increase further despite weak benzene

In the week ended 21 September 2018, the SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end rose US$20 a ton. In China, spot liquid good offers were up US$73 a ton as compared to last week while solid goods rose US$29 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia surged in the week while feedstock benzene values were still declining. In China, CPL prices soared as supply was limited during the week while demand was lagging a bit.

Nylon or polyamide prices witness bullish trend in August

Nylon or polyamide chip prices in Asia rose in August 2018 supported by high caprolactum cost and tight supply while producers operated at high run rates to meet the demand during the month. Buyers followed up gradually and demand was seen improving. Offers for Taiwan-origin chips inched up 0.1% from previous month. In China, bright conventional spinning nylon-6 chips were priced at US$2,600-2,703, rose 4.8% from July while semi-dull chips were offered at US$2,712-2,776 a ton, up 0.4% on the month.

Nylon raw material prices stable-to-higher in H2 August 2018

CPL offers in China were largely stable in the week ended 24 August 2018 as supply tightness was easing a bit due to increase in average run rates in the region during the week.

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end were stable during the week. In China, spot CPL liquid good offers were up US$7 a ton due to strong local currency while solid goods also rose US$7 on the week. Sinopec kept its August contract nomination price at 16,800 Yuan a ton while Fibrant nominated its August contract price at 16,900 Yuan a ton for liquid goods.

CPL prices inch up while nylon-6 prices hold firm in Asia

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end rose US$10 a ton in the week ended 3 August 2018. In China, spot liquid good offers was up US$2 a ton as compared to last week while solid goods were stable during the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia were firmed up during the week amid strong feedstock benzene market. In China, CPL offers were mostly up in the week buoyed by high cost and low inventory as one plant shut its unit last week. Average domestic run rates declined to 78.6% that week which indicates that supply was tightening a bit.

Caprolactum prices likely to rise in Asia

In China, spot liquid good offers rose US$115 a ton in the week ended 6 July 2018 while solid goods was up US$24 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia rebounded last week in line with upstream benzene cost. In China, CPL offers were hiked amid tight supply in the region during the week. Plant run rates fell to 76.7% in the week. It is likely that market supply may tighten in the short run amid delayed plant restarts.

Overall, CPL prices are expected to inch up further in coming weeks on expectations of tighter supply.

Benzene prices in Asia climbed in May on the back of improved demand and rising energy prices. In US, spot benzene prices rose during the month tracking upward movement in crude oil values as well as rising costs for other aromatics products. Europe, benzene prices moved up this month, given rising oil prices and healthy demand. Asian marker, FOB Korea inched up 2.9% in May while US spot prices jumped 0.3% as compared to April. European spot rose 1.5-2% on the month.

Nylon chips price weakens amid polyester substitution

In China, bright conventional spinning nylon-6 prices was down US$82 a ton in the third week of April while semi-dull high-speed spinning chip fell US$66 a ton as compared to last week.

Nylon or polyamide chip prices in Asia trended down amid dull market sentiment and downward pressure from raw materials market. In China, nylon chip offers were lowered as downstream demand was weak during the week.

Most producers were cutting production as buying interest in end-sectors was dented by sluggish feedstock and as a result made less procurement.

Nylon becomes cheaper this season

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD prices fell US cents 2 a kg in the second week of April while FDY40D was down US cents 2 a kg as compared to last week. Nylon DTY prices were stable and 30D/10F were also unchanged on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over during the week.

Nylon yarn prices firm on steady demand

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F and FDY40D SD prices were stable in the second week of January. Nylon DTY 70D/24F and 30D/10F prices also were firm during the week. Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over on the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices were range-bound this week on the back of steady demand and firm chip prices. Inventory did not increase much during the week. Since Chinese year-end is approaching, yarn plant rates will remain low for some time.

Overall, nylon yarn prices are likely to range bound in coming weeks.

Nylon market stable to weak on dull demand

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD prices were unchanged in the first week of January, while FDY40D was stable during the week. Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were firm while 30D/10F prices fell US cents 5 a kg on the week. Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over on the week.

Nylon filament yarn prices softened that week in tandem with declining nylon chip prices amid lackluster demand. Producers operated at higher rates given passable profits while demand was stable. Demand was rigid as buyers were unwilling to pay higher prices.
