Chinese invest US220mn in Billion Vietnam polyester synthetic fiber plant

Vietnam in the first two months of this year (2017) has seen an increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) from China, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Specifically, in January-February period, Chinese investors have registered to implement 123 projects and 174 times of share purchase. Some typical projects by Chinese investors during the period include Billion Vietnam polyester synthetic fiber plant (with investment of 220 million US dollars) in central Tay Ninh province.

Vietnam’s industrial parks and economic zones enticed 305 projects covering over 84,000 hectares and 16 economic zones covering 814,792 hectares of water and land during the first quarter with a large number of foreign investors, reported the Department for Economic Zones Management.

The number of foreign-invested enterprises (FDI) pouring capital into the textile industry is growing quickly. This year, in the past 10 months local governments have given approval for almost 20 new projects of FDI firms, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

However, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) has warned of the expanding gap between FDI and domestic firms in the textile-garment sector.
