Top Indian designers to give a face lift for Banarasi handloom industry

Designer-turned-BJP politician Shaina NC came up with an innovative concept of organizing an event where reputed Indian designers will converge in a bid to revive core Banarasi handloom products, including the fabled saris. Union textile minister Santosh Gangwar and development commissioner (handloom) of Union ministry of textile Alok Kumar will be part of this event.

She said that creating design sensibility among local manufacturers is the basic objective behind this endeavour. They will display their designs woven by Banarasi artisans under Make in India campaign.

E-commerce major, ebay have stepped into the Indian weaver's market after campaigns like a Banarasi sari campaign which ran for a couple of months received huge response from across the world. They are working with close to 250 weavers and their acquisition team visits weavers market regularly to procure products. The best part of this is that weavers can make their products available to any part of the world, said Navin Mistry, head, retail experts, ebay India.

Texprocil welcomes Centre’s move to double time limit to avail cenvat credit

The Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council of India (Texprocil) welcomes the Centre’s move to double the time limit for availing Cenvat credit on inputs to one year. It has also expected the increase in service tax by two percent to 14 percent to impact the overall cost.

However, RK Dalmia, Chairman, Texprocil said that the government should have announced measures for speedy refund of service tax on export-related services.

The special additional duty on various imported raw material and inputs was announced, but unfortunately no mention of textile items in it.
