Moderate trading activity seen with firm cotton prices

Moderate trading activity witnessed at the cotton market, as more than 9,000 bales changed hands. Dealers said that the leading mills and spinners purchased cotton of all qualities during the trading session.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate remained intact at Rs 6,700 per maund. While, the physical market prices remained between Rs 6,350 per maund and Rs 6,600 per maund.

The mills bought quality cotton on slightly higher rates while spinners of Sindh strengthened their long positions.

Cotton spinning mills in northern India facing crisis due the excess spinning capacity and decline in exports this fiscal year have resulted in poor cash flow and excessive stocks due to which they are planning to shut down one day a week, according to Chandigarh based Northern India Textile Mills’ Association (NITMA) having 98 member mills that includes leading names such as Vardhaman and Trident, etc.

Prices remain firm on the cotton market in Pakistan

In the process of modest trading, dealers said that prices maintained firmness on the cotton market on Saturday. Some leading mills were on the sidelines owing to less buying interest as per market sources. The prices of seed cotton in Sindh were at Rs 2100-2700 and in Punjab at Rs 2500-3100. The official spot rate remained unmoved at Rs 5500

Experts attributed the fall in activity to larger stock with the leading buyers as they had bought major stock than their needs, so some exporters selling their cotton stock to needy mills.
