Export demand for cotton to remain sluggish as China, the top destination for Indian cotton, remaining inactive in importing the commodity, exports are unlikely to see significant growth this year. Due to the sudden spurt in export demand for cotton as helped firm up cotton prices in recent times, according to Indian Cotton Federation (ICF) .

Indian cotton exports look bright with sudden spurt in Pakistan’s cotton imports from India which is likely to see a rise mainly due to the recovery seen in rupee value and production of lower volumes of prime quality cotton produced in Pakistan this year. Experts are also of the opinion that Pakistani spinning mill owners prefer high quality Indian cotton compared with that from the US or Brazil, moreover the cost and transportation time in case of Indian cotton are much lower. Indian origin cotton is also receiving good export orders from Bangladesh as well.

IFC marks 361 lakh bales of cotton crop for 2013-14 season

The Indian Cotton Federation has marked 361 lakh bales of cotton crop for the 2013-14 season, though delayed by a month. According to J. Thulasidharan, President, ICF, the crop is good, quality wise.

As per the state wise ICF survey of the crop shows that Gujarat tops in production (125 lakh bales) followed by Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh at 70 and 65 lakh bales respectively.

The production in the central zone comprising Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan has been estimated at 55 lakh bales.

ICF ardent on establishing link with African growers

Indian Cotton Federation is ardent to establish better trade relationship and a direct connect between the African cotton grower/ginners and the buyer in India following the meeting with three-member team from that continent, third delegation in the last couple of months in India on an exploratory trip, to understand the requirement of the industry.
