Kanoria Africa Textiles sets up denim fabric plant in Ethiopia

Kanoria Africa Textiles Plc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Ltd, has set up an integrated denim project at Bishoftu, Ethiopia.

This plant in Ethiopia has set up to manufacture denim fabric, which is the first such project in East Africa.

The plant has 16 acres of land 50 km off the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The plant has set up at a cost of $50 million which will have the capacity of producing 12 million metres annually.

The unit has spinning (1440 rotors), weaving (60 looms) units, a dyeing facility and a finishing line.

A big industrial centre of textiles TAYAL to upcoming on the site of the new industrial park Sidi Kettab a town and commune in Relizane Province, Algeria over an area of 250 hectares in Algeria which will involve an investment to the tune of DZD155 billion and generate about 25,000 jobs. The project is outcome of an Algerian-Turkish partnership, CEO of State-owned Group Confection et Habillement (CH) Ahmed Benayad said.

Demand for denim fabric is high worldwide, as denim garments are comfortable and fashionable. To meet the growing global demand, local entrepreneurs of Bangladesh have started investing heavily in denim, as at least six new factories will come into operation this year.

Five to six other groups have already installed machinery to produce the fabric.

Kutubuddin Ahmed, chairman of Envoy Group stated that they will start producing an additional one million yards of denim fabric a month in the next three months. At present, it produces three million yards a month.
