Darlington textile plant being revamp by Fiber Industries

An old Darlington County’s Palmetto textile plant which was shut down in 2008 by the bankruptcy of its owner is being revamped by Fiber Industries. The $30 million capital investment will be used to revamp the site and install new equipment which is expected to create at least 135 new jobs.

Production of polyester fibers used in a variety of apparel, home furnishing and other non-woven markets will restart at the plant early 2018.

Parkdale Mills, a leader in the spun yarn industry plans to expand its Mountain City operations making it the company’s largest ring spinning installation will be investing to the tune of $120 million. The expansion will include replacing all existing manufacturing equipment and increasing the facility size. Shalag US Inc. — the North American division of Israel-based textile company Shalag Industries Ltd., a global supplier of nonwoven fabrics for hygiene and wipes applications will be expanding its production facility in Granville County, North Carolina. The expansion will create 40 new jobs over the next three years.

The expansion of the facility in Oxford with an investment of $16 million would add a third thermo-bonding production line. The company currently has 74 employees in its Oxford plant.
