What are the environmental impacts of acetate fiber?

< All Topics

The acetate fiber that is solvent is spun from cellulose pulp (cotton linters and wood pulp). Although the acetate fiber is quite biodegradable it still has certain drawbacks such as the huge consumption of energy and the use of fossil fuel in the fiber production stage. In addition, the solvent used in the process of dry spinning that is acetone is almost 95% recoverable and the fiber can be easily made into compost. But similar to the rayon fabric, acetate fibers utilise cellulose polymer wherein the cotton crop has several environmental concerns such as the huge amount of water consumption.
