In the world, China is the biggest producer of ramie fiber and exports fibers mainly to Japan and Europe. In production, China is followed by Brazil, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. Besides these countries, ramie is also cultivated in Japan, India, Malaya, Queensland, Mauritius, the Cameroons, the West Indies, Brazil, Mexico, and the southern states of North America, South Europe. The main importers of ramie fiber include countries like Japan, Germany, France, and the UK. The remaining supplies are used domestically by the countries. In India, the ramie is cultivated in some areas of West Bengal and Assam state.
