Pina is a Spanish word that literally means pineapple. Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a fruit-bearing plant and belongs to the family of Bromeliaceae and grows in the tropical and subtropical regions. The pineapple fibers are agro-residues of the food industry that is being utilised by the textile industry.

Pina is a bast fiber extracted from the leaves of the pineapple plant. The fibers are fine, soft and lightweight however are often blended with silk or polyester to make textile material. Leaves are waste material in pineapple production that can be turned into fiber. Pineapple fiber is considered to be more delicate in texture than any other vegetable fiber.
