What are the environmental impacts of jute?

Jute is a natural fiber and does not necessarily harm the environment and also helps in soil replenishment and increases soil fertility when cultivated in rotation with another crop. While the roots of jute increase fertility and leaves work as pesticides. The woody stalk of jute is used as a composite and is utilised as fuel thus reducing deforestation (alternative of wood). However, if fertilizers or pesticides are used in cultivation then these toxic chemicals have the chance to enter water bodies and in turn the biosphere.

Jute also helps to sustain the ozone layer by absorbing carbon -dioxide and releases oxygen in the atmosphere. The jute is also used as geo-textiles, biogas, biodegradable products which have a negligible impact on the environment.
