The Australian wool markets saw prices lifted over both sale days this week, more than recovering the previous week’s losses. The EMI was quoted up Aus cents 7 to close the week at Aus$12.42 a kg. A weaker Aus$, saw the EMI fall in US$ terms by US cents 20 to close at US$9.80.
In Melbourne, sales saw firmer levels on opening, with good buyer focus on the 19 through to 20 micron categories. Crossbreds continued their rally with gains across the 28 to 32 micron wools, while the 26 micron categories sold higher. Oddments continued to enjoy solid demand, pushing prices higher.
Among major microns, 26 was the only gainer with prices up US cent 1 at US$8.15 a kg while 18 micron was the highest loser with prices falling US cents 28 and ending the week at US$11.35 a kg. 23 micron followed with a loss of US cents 21 at US$9.66 a kg. 22-micron lost US cents 19 to US$9.94 a kg. Merino carding ended the week losing US cents 11 at US$8.56 a kg.
