Asian acrylonitrile prices inched up US$10 ton CFR Far East Asia and CFR South East in the week ended 31 August 2018. Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets rose despite weak propylene cost, as supply was still tight amid turnaround season.
Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical shut its 70,000 tons per year ACN plant for maintenance on 1 September. Taiwan’s FPC shut one of its ACN line for maintenance on 4 September.
In US, export acrylonitrile prices moved down in the week as market assessed the tight supply and softening demand forecast for the fourth quarter. US acrylonitrile export prices fell US$70 a ton on the week.
In Europe, spot ACN market rose during the week on rising feedstock prices and limited availability in the market. Spot ACN prices were up Euro90 a ton CIF Mediterranean on the week.
