Acrylic staple fibre markets were calm in the first week of August and prices generally rolled over. In China, mainstream producers rolled over their offers despite upstream acrylonitrile prices were southbound. Downstream yarn sector saw mills running at low run rates and buying hand-to-mouth volume amid the seasonal lull. However, ASF producers still saw normal liquidity, while inventory was tolerable despite a mild increase.
Producers’ prices in India were revised down while they remained unchanged in Pakistan. With raw material price fluctuating and downstream mills purchasing hand-to-mouth amid off season, it is likely that ASF market will remain range bound in coming week.
In China, cotton-type staple fiber and medium-length staple were stable. Thai Acrylic Fiber quoted 3D tow at US$2.22 a kg while Taiwan’s Tong-Hwa offered 3D bright tow at US$2.40 a kg and 3D anti-pilling fiber tow at US$2.46 a kg CIF Shanghai. Offers for Japan-origin flat fiber were at US$3.30 a kg. In Pakistan, 1.2D ASF prices were steady and Indian ASF prices were revised down INR3 a kg.
