Zara announces to enter resale sector

Spanish retailer Zara, has officially entered the resale sector with the announcement of plans to introduce its own pre-owned platform in the UK.

On November 3, “Zara Pre-Owned” will be launched. It will be integrated into all of Zara’s physical locations, online store, and mobile app.

Customers using the site will be able to conduct peer-to-peer sales of their Zara goods. The area itself will be divided into product categories, with each category displaying updated photos and in-depth product information.

Customers will be able to request repairs on any worn Zara item from any season through the retailer’s repair services in addition to the resale offer.

The service will offer a wide variety of repair choices, such as replacing buttons and zippers and mending seams. The promotion will be available both online and in-stores.

Customers will also be able to request that their worn clothing be picked up from their home for donation using the Pre-Owned Platform.

The function expands on the donation bins that Zara already offers in all of its UK stores, and online donations will now be forwarded to the Red Cross to be recycled or reused in support of its own programs. Every brand of apparel is covered by this service.

According to a press release from the company, it comes as Zara and its owner Inditex continue to move in the direction of a circular economy model.

This involves all aspects of company operations, from product design to retail management, it was added.

In order to reduce textile waste, the shop wants to encourage its customers to dispose of their unwanted apparel in a more environmentally friendly manner.

It expands on the current programs run by Inditex’s Sustainability Innovation Hub, a platform where the fashion conglomerate focuses on research into environmentally friendly products, partners, and technologies.
