Workers at Inditex plan protests over benefits

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-03-21 16:49:54 – Spain

Employees of Inditex, the company behind Zara, are organizing protests in eight major Spanish cities this Friday, following the fashion giant's announcement of record earnings and increased shareholder rewards. The protests aim to demand better benefits for workers, as announced by unions on Monday.

Inditex recently reported a significant increase in dividend distribution and record annual profit, leading to a surge in its share prices. Despite these positive results, worker representatives believe the company should prioritize improving benefits for its employees.

The largest unions in Spain, CCOO and UGT, have called on retail workers in Inditex's home country to gather outside Zara and Bershka stores on Friday at noon. While the stores will remain open, employees and union representatives will meet outside during their lunch breaks to discuss their demands.

The unions are pushing for additional hours for part-time workers, guaranteed weekends off for all employees, and seniority bonuses to begin after four years of service. These demands aim to ensure fair treatment and improved benefits for Inditex's workforce.
