Woolmark launches Woolmark+ to promote sustainability

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-09-03 16:45:41 – USA

Woolmark has introduced Woolmark+, a new initiative aimed at bringing together woolgrowers, the supply chain, and brands to secure a sustainable future for the wool industry. Woolmark+ seeks to accelerate low-impact production, promote circular practices, and improve animal welfare and woolgrower livelihoods. The initiative outlines 13 practical steps designed to support nature regeneration, cut carbon emissions, and enhance productivity.

This approach not only helps woolgrowers achieve their business goals but also aligns with brands’ growing efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions and enhance supply chain sustainability. By avoiding a narrow focus on carbon reduction and instead aiming for a nature-positive approach, Woolmark emphasizes the broader benefits of wool production for both the environment and livelihoods

John Roberts, Managing Director of The Woolmark Company, stated, "With over 60 years of experience, Woolmark understands the complexities of the textile industry and is committed to its success by aligning economic growth with positive ecological and social impacts. Australian woolgrowers manage over 65 million hectares of land and can play a key role in the global shift towards a low-emission, nature-positive market. Their commitment to nature must be recognized and supported to showcase the wool industry’s contribution to biodiversity, beyond just net zero targets."

In addition to environmental stewardship, the Woolmark+ roadmap promotes a comprehensive, nature-positive approach through the development of supply chain programs that advance circularity and ensure ongoing demand for wool.
