Warwick textile mill on redevelopment to be global trade hub

G-Suite Holding, Hong Kong-based property developer has been given approval byRochdale Borough Council to go ahead with the redevelopment of a historic textile mill of Middleton’s Warwick Mill in the one-time famous cotton spinning town of Rochdales in Greater Manchester and has been largely empty for many years.

It will be the company’s biggest ever investment project in Europe set to get underway in Greater Manchester after permission was granted for the £50m (a 75 million U.S.dollars) and it will see new life breathed into the five-storey Warwick Mill.

The scheme is expected to create more than 200 jobs, involves transforming the five-storey 200,000 sq ft mill into a global trade hub with onsite restaurants and cafes.

The redevelopment of the grade II-listed red brick mill will convert it into a facility where Chinese companies and those from emerging markets in Asia can exhibit and sell their goods in the UK and European markets, as well as helping local companies exploit new markets in Asia.

The development, known as Red Warwick will be open to the public. The scheme was recently launched in China, with 19 companies including several small- to medium-sized enterprises and a global brand already signed up.

Richard Farnell, leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said that securing a £50m investment for this important site really confirms the growing confidence investors have in their borough. The council has worked extremely hard to get to this stage.

This is a game changer for Middleton and the wider borough because as well as restoring a historic landmark building and creating jobs for their local residents, it will bring companies from around the globe to Greater Manchester. It’s clear that the potential benefits of this scheme are far reaching.

G-Suite director Robert Wong said that planning consent has been given. This means they can commence the renovation of the grade II-listed former textile mill into a landmark the people of Middleton and the surrounding areas will be proud of. G Suite expects that the scheme will be operational by early 2017.
