Australia-based shoewear brand Vionic, has teamed up with Proteus Ocean Group, an underwater research station and habitat, to promote awareness about the ocean and climate change.
A co-branded beach clean-up and consumer education campaign, as well as a sea-inspired capsule collection of eco-conscious beach sneakers, will be introduced as part of the partnership.
Proteus Ocean Group, founded by environmentalist and aquanaut Fabien Cousteau, with the goal of raising awareness about the ocean and the need to conserve it. It also plans to construct a research facility 60 feet below the ocean's surface to encourage additional exploration and innovation.
Costeau, said that climate change, rising sea levels, catastrophic storms, and diseases pose a multi-trillion dollar risk to the global economy," says the report. Their collaboration with Vionic will provide them with more chances to interact and connect with environmentally concerned consumers.
Sustainable materials will be used to create the 'sea-inspired' beach sneakers. The design will use canvas fabric manufactured from natural materials and will be made from a soy-based chemical that is certified as vegan.
Chris Gallagher, co-founder of Vionic, said that ocean wellbeing is human wellness. As a business and as enthusiastic individual supporters, they’re pleased to donate to and partner with an organization at the forefront of innovation, rescuing and safeguarding our oceans and world in a huge way.
