Surpassing Malaysia and Thailand, Vietnam has become the largest exporter to the United States in the Southeast Asian region with a record trade surplus of almost US$25 billion (S$34 billion) in 2014. According to the US Census Bureau data, trade between the two countries reached US$36.3 billion, of which, Vietnam exported US$30.6 billion worth of goods to the US while it imported goods worth only US$5.7 billion.
