Ventile collaborates for biodynamic cotton farming in Egypt

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-01-07 14:52:43 – Egypt

High-end fabric producer Ventile has collaborated with the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA) to promote biodynamic farming in Egypt. This marks the second year of their partnership, which focuses on supporting sustainable agriculture.

The Ramadan Kamel Farm in Behira and the Salsol Farm in Dommiat have made notable advancements in transitioning to biodynamic farming. This season, they collectively harvested 47,728 kilograms of premium organic cotton. The farms also reported healthier soil and a rise in biodiversity, showcasing the positive impact of the transition.

The Ramadan Kamel Farm successfully cultivated Giza 86 cotton with financial backing from Ventile, personalized training sessions from EBDA, and guidance on fertilization and biological pest control. Meanwhile, the Salsol Farm shifted its focus from growing wheat, beetroot, and alfalfa to a new plan that included Giza 92 cotton and rice. Currently, 20 feddens of the farm are showing improved soil quality and fertility.

Moving forward, both farms aim to concentrate on using biological pest control methods, managing plant diseases, and further enhancing soil through fertilization techniques. These steps will help maintain ecological balance while supporting sustainable crop production.

“At Ventile, we are always exploring more sustainable ways to produce fabrics, from the raw materials to the finishing stages,” said Daniel Odermatt, Ventile’s brand director. “When EBDA approached us, we were inspired by their work in Egypt. Since early 2023, we have been working together to assist these farms in transitioning to biodynamic farming methods. The results so far are promising, with expectations of better long-term productivity and higher-quality cotton.”
