The US-based online marketplace has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. Etsy said that they will address all 3 scopes i.e. Scope 1 and 2 emissions that include office operations and purchased energy while Scope 3 includes seller activities like shipping and packaging.
The company’s target is to cut down Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 13.5%.
Josh Silverman, Etsy CEO said that for the environment and humanity, climate change has remained an ever-present warning. They are bound and determined to do everything within their ability to not only offset but to reduce their overall carbon footprint.
He added that the strong belief of Etsy that their performance and impact are inextricably linked is reflected from their trailblazing integrated reporting model of Etsy which empowers them to share the impact updates alongside their financial results. They are committed to hold themselves accountable and maintain transparency as they reach towards achieving net-zero by 2030.
As per Etsy, in 2019 they became the first e-commerce company to start offsetting all carbon emissions from shipping in early 2019.
