Unifi has unveiled Repreve with CiClo technology, a groundbreaking innovation combining recycled polyester and nylon with biodegradable technology to help tackle synthetic microfibre pollution. This next-generation fibre includes a patented additive that enables synthetics to break down more naturally in soil and seawater, closely mimicking the biodegradation process of natural fibres like wool.

Developed in collaboration with Intrinsic Advanced Materials, Repreve with CiClo maintains the performance, durability, and dyeability of traditional synthetics while addressing one of the fashion industry’s most pressing environmental challenges: microplastic fibre shedding. “Our collaboration addresses the global issue of synthetic microfibre shedding by providing a scalable solution,” said Unifi CEO Eddie Ingle.

CiClo technology enables synthetic fibres to biodegrade more quickly when exposed to moisture and microorganisms, significantly reducing their long-term environmental footprint. The innovation is already being adopted by leading brands such as Champion, Billabong, Oakley, Bass Pro Shops, and Target, signaling growing momentum toward sustainable synthetics.

By integrating CiClo technology at the fibre level, Unifi’s Repreve with CiClo represents a significant step forward in designing textiles with a lower environmental impact across their entire lifecycle. The new fibre is now globally available for mills, brands, and retailers looking to combine performance with planet-conscious innovation.
