Under Armour publishes its 2021 sustainability & impact report

Sportswear giant Under Armour, has set a number of new sustainability goals, one of which is to incorporate “sustainable and circular design concepts” into at least 50% of its products by 2027.

It said another key goal is to prioritize recycled and renewable resources by 2025, without providing a deadline. However, it did state that in 2021, almost 40% of the fabrics used in its clothing and accessories were created from “products that can be recycled”.

Additionally, the firm wants to use 75 percent less single-use plastic in its product packaging by 2025.

According to “industry-leading recommendations on fabric shedding,” Under Armour wants 75 percent of their fabric to be made of “low-shed materials” by the year 2030.

The business wants to “create chemistry and procedures that can enable a circular footwear program to be deployed in the market, at scale” by that time.

Other goals include getting rid of all biocides and fluorine DWR from its products by 2025, cutting absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 30%, raising the share of renewable energy in owned and operated facilities to 100% by 2030, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

According to Under Armour, its sustainability and impact report adheres to Sustainable Accounting Standard Board (SASB) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) industry requirements.
