Sports brand Under Armour has extended its new auxetic technology to football cleats, with the aim of enabling speed and comfort.
Called Clone Adaptive technology, the material is designed to conform to complex foot anatomy while reducing friction points. Expanding and contracting for more natural movement, the material is said to allow an identical foot feel and a custom fit for every athlete.
“Every foot is different,” the company said in describing the Clone Blur MC football cleats, “and because of this, needs its own variation of fit and comfort to enable speed and agility.”
The technology has already been used in the spacewear system that Under Armour designed for Virgin Galactic future astronauts, as well as in heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s boxing boot.
