Kseniaschnaider, a Ukrainian denim brand, has received praise from PETA Germany. The animal rights organization’s German division awarded the brand with the 2024 PETA Vegan Award for their Chewbacca jeans. PETA Germany acknowledged the brand's commitment to sustainability, noting their refusal to waste even small pieces of fabric and their love for animals.
Founded by Ksenia and Anton Schnaider, the brand's $600 Chewbacca jeans feature their signature "denim fur," a hair-like texture made from reworked vintage denim and frayed offcuts. These jeans won in the "Best Vegan Pants" category.
Denim fur has been a key element of Kseniaschnaider’s designs for years. This technique has been used in various products, including footwear, jackets, and a Spring 2023 collaboration with New York-based denim brand DL1961.
“Kseniaschnaider’s Denim Fur Jeans demonstrate how sustainable and vegan fashion is always possible. Dressing vegan benefits animals, people, and the environment. We hope other fashion brands will follow this example and focus on plant-based, animal-free designs,” said Harald Ullmann, co-founder and second chairman of PETA Germany.
