UK fashion brand HYPE partners with Ecologi to go carbon neutral by 2022

UK-based fashion brand HYPE has collaborated with a Bristol-based green group Ecologi to make a contribution in cutting global greenhouse emissions. This collaboration is done to offset their carbon footprint, with a promise that a tree will be planted for every order taken.

In a short time, the two companies have worked together and have planted more than 19,120 trees to support reforestation projects in Papua New Guinea and geothermal power production projects in Indonesia to offset its emissions. In raising awareness of the fashion industry’s environmental obligations, HYPE is also working with its retail partners.

The retail business, based in Leicestershire has set a goal to become a fully sustainable business by 2022 and has already begun to use recyclable packaging alongside offsetting to achieve this. From people wanting to dress comfortably at home in lockdown, HYPE has recently reported a rise in demand for loungewear. In the coming months, they have planned to go into new overseas territories after earlier plans to move into China didn’t come off.

HYPE was launched by Bav Samani, Liam Green, and Vin Patel in 2011 which sells clothes and accessories through its own website and other retailers’ sites and stores across more than 175 UK stockists and 27 territories worldwide. Despite a year of on-off shop closures, the brand has a turnover of around £13 million.

In recent years, the brand has been recognized as one of Britain’s fastest-growing private companies and making the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100. Global superstars including Jay-Z, Cara Delevingne, and Tom Hardy have also sported the brand.

Around 87.42 tonnes of carbon dioxide has been saved by HYPE to date as per Ecologi’s calculation which is equivalent to more than 215,000 miles driven in a car.
